OpenStreetMaps Data

OpenSteetMaps is a community created open dataset. The community collects data, which is collated and made avaialble via OpenStreetMaps (OSM).

After exploring the OSM data a bit, I have recently been focusing on extracting, viewing, and understanding GPS traces that are submitted to build the OSM dataset.

• pulled data from OSM API for a dozen cities

• extracted the raw data into convenient data formats

• explored the GPS traces with plots and

• clustered the traces to understand underlying information about the traces
